 State Champions!

Eastern lost in the semi-finals to Virginia 4-3.  The team went 3-1 in the Tournament of State Champions, 10-1 overall.  Eastern went 3-0 in pool play by beating Kentucky 14-4 on Monday night.  The boys clinched the #2 seed and will play the #3 seed Virginia Tuesday at 4:30 CST.

On Saturday, August 2, the Eastern All Stars beat Tennessee 21-3 in their first game in the Tournament of State Champions.  There were plenty of tournament records set in the game.  The team had five home runs in the game (a tournament record), Whitt Davis hit one three run home run and then a grand slam home run.  Whitt had 8 RBI on the day (a new tournament record).  Devin Platts hit a three run home run and a grand slam home run (a new tournament record, two grand slams hit by the same team) and Daniel Wright added a solo home run.  In the third inning, the team set another record by scoring 13 runs in one inning.  The 21 total runs were also a tournament record.

On Sunday, August 3, the Eastern All Star team got down early to Florida 1-0.  Then in the top of the third inning, Daniel Wright led off the inning with a solo home run.  Following a single by Graham Brady, Ethan Abston hit a double down the left field line to knock in the go ahead run.  The team went on to win the game 5-2.

Congratulations to the 9-10 Eastern All Star team for winning the state tournament at Fern Bell.  This is the first state championship in the ten year history of Eastern League.  The team now advances to the Tournament of State Champions in Ceredo - Kenova, West Virginia beginning on Saturday, August 2.

You can follow the team in West Virginia at this link TOURNAMENT OF STATE CHAMPIONS .    This website also includes live professional web streaming using four cameras with professional play by play and color analysts for all games by the Marshall University broadcast team.

Eastern will play Tennessee on Saturday, August 2 at 10:00 AM CST, Florida on Sunday, August 3 at NOON CST and Kentucky on Monday, August 4 at 7:00 PM CST.  All teams with a 2-1 or better record will advance out of pool play into the quarter-finals beginning on Tuesday, August 5.

We will update the website with more information as it is received.

The team is trying to raise money for the boys to go to West Virginia.  Any donations from the community are greatly appreciated.  If you are interested in making a personal or corporate donation, please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Public Safety and Awareness
Written by kevin wright

Coaches, Parents, and Volunteers;

We had an incident at the park last night (June 18) that should heighten our sense of awareness for the safety of our kids.  Although the incident was isolated and the suspected perpetrator has been arrested, we should always exercise common sense about safety. The Park Board of Directors will also be working with City officials to improve security and protection plans at the park.

Please keep the following safety tips in mind:

Parents:  Please walk your children to the field; don't drop them off in the parking lot and leave.  Make sure you make contact with the coach so he/she knows the child is present and is now under the supervision of the coach.  Be there at the field at the end of practice and walk your child to the car.

Coaches: Once the player is under your supervision, you should remain at the field until the parent arrives to pick up their child.  Keep contact information on each player with you during practices and games.  Make sure that someone on the team has a cell phone for emergency call.

Kids: Please remind your kids that they should be aware of their surroundings at all times.  They should avoid contact with strangers and report any unusual activity to you or their coach immediately.

If you have any suggestions or comments please reply to Kevin Wright, Huntsville Eastern League President:  This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
From Huntsville City Parks and Recreation:
Now and always please be aware of your surroundings and learn to have a "situational awareness".  Always know where your children are and their proximity to you.
Situational awareness is a human experience defined as;
* Knowing and understanding what is happening around you
* Predicting how it will change with time
* Being unified with the dynamics of your environment
If you ever feel uncomfortable about an individual in the park or witness anyone doing anything suspicious, contact a league board representative in the park area and then, if necessary, call HPD.
